Reviews for Kwetiau Akang Medan
Review highlights
Based on 898 reviewsKwetiau Akang Medan is widely praised for its authentic and flavorful Medanese char kway teow, often highlighted for its generous toppings like crab meat and prawns. Customers appreciate the traditional charcoal cooking method that imparts a distinctive smoky aroma. The restaurant’s cleanliness, comfortable environment with effective air conditioning, and accommodating service are frequently mentioned as strengths. While the overall experience is positive, some feedback suggests minor improvements in seating area ventilation to enhance comfort. Affordability and consistent taste quality make Kwetiau Akang Medan a recommended destination for lovers of Chinese-Indonesian cuisine in Jakarta, with many considering it a must-try for char kway teow enthusiasts.
Food was very tasty and service was excellent. For improvement the only thing that can be done immediately and almost no extra cost is to adjust fans so it teach most areas of seating and make sure all fans are in working order. I was there in a group of about 25 people.
Probably the only shop that serves delicious Kwetiau Goreng 63000. The place is well-renovated, clean, and has three AC units running to keep it cool on hot days.
Open late in the afternoon - mostly 5pm till midnight - this Medanese Char Kway Teow vendor still maintain traditional cooking method using charcoal to fry those kway teow in fiery wok, creating a tasty kway teow with a hint of burnt aroma. Kwetiau Goreng (Char kway teow) Special is definitely a must-try; this fried kwetiau comes with very generous toppings - crab meat, juicy prawns, meatballs, fried fish cakes (hepia) & chasiu/beef - that it seems to amount as much as (or even more than) the kway teow itself. Expect to get some crab shells as you dig along. Their Fried Rice & Noodles are also delicious in case you want to have some variation. Don't forget to ask for the crispy pork skin for the snacks or you can mixed it as topping. Yumm!! Personally I think this is the best Medanese Fried Kwetiau in town For (late) night snacking, try the kuo tieh (pork dumplings) from the stall right in front of the restaurant, it's so delicious I even don't realize I've finished almost the whole plate! Haha... As it is located at one of the busiest food avenue in Mangga Besar, finding a parking space can be challenging especially on peak dining time. So when you see an empty spot better grab it even if it's not that close to the restaurant.
Legend kwetiaw goreng spesial kepiting, tried again n again and the taste still awesome. Should get michelin star for their stability taste n quality. For the price of 75k can get this awesome food, i think is a must WORTH to try
One of the best char kuey teow in Jakarta. Akin to the Penang CKT for good reasons! Don't miss this!
This restaurant has a very special place in my heart. My family has been going here for many years now ever since I was a child. In those many years, never have I felt disappointed after eating here. The service has always been great, they greet you with a smkle and serve you accordingly. Nothing too special but enough to make you comfortable eating there. The food however is impeccable. This place actually has plenty franchises, and yet none of them are as good as the one here. The kwetiau or noodles (depending on your order) are best in the city. It's charred well, it's not oily, flavourfull, and it even has pieces if eggs just clinging in onto the noodles themselves. You should order "Kwetiau goreng isi" which has both seafood and pork in it. Also what I think is quite underrated is their pan fried Wotie (you can choose deep fried as well). The Wotie is filled with delicious ground pork with garlic and green onions, with a nice thin wrapping, served with an acidic chili sauce. Highly Recommend As for the atmosphere, yes the place is quite old with a very simple interior, very comfortable now because it even has AC last time I was there. But, honestly it would not feel the same if it had a luxurious interior. It feels old because it represents old Jakarta. For anyone looking for a taste of a legendary street food in Jakarta, this is the place for you
Great tasting kwetiau! It has the right “wok hei” and flavourful. Packed with ingredients that are noticeable in size. Only lacking the pork lard to go with this awesome plate of goodness.
